The Benefits and Options of Building a Custom Mac

Last updated on September 3rd, 2022 at 6:24 pm

Today any product can be customized to suit your individual needs, then why not try your hands at building customized Apple computers. Customization offers a number of unique benefits as well. Though preconfigured Macs are equally capable devices that meet the needs of most people, but custom option proves to be a better alternative for many.

Here are few benefits of building a custom computer.

By building custom Apple computers, you get exactly what you need and want. The device can be tailored to match the tasks you undertake the most. You can also add hardware components and features so that you do not have to upgrade your Mac later. Simply put, you can build a Mac that is just right for you and your needs.

A pre-built Mac can be purchased from Apple stores or authorized Apple resellers, set up and used in a matter of hours, but this is not the case if you are looking to buy customized Mac. There is just one drawback to this, customization requires additional time to be built and delivered. In addition to this, choosing features and components may also take time, especially if you aren’t aware of what you need. So to avoid this you need to begin the process early on and keep a list ready with the components and features you would like to add. The buyers who are interested in building a custom Apple computer should take into consideration the build time, availability, and time for delivery.

The process of building a custom computer is relatively easy one. You need to visit websites offering customized Apple computers and select the product you want such as MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Once you are done with it the next step is to select the model, whether you want a 13” or 15” screen. Then simply look for the button customize and click it. After this you can begin configuring features and specifications, Apple enables its consumers to specify a wide range of features including storage, the processor, operating system, camera, Touch Bar, display, ports, graphics processor, security software, broadband type, and hard drive. Software options include MacOS, MacOS X, MacOS Sierra, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and File Maker Pro.

This is all about building a custom Mac at the Apple store or other retailers offering customization. However, there are other customization options as well which you can do yourself once your Mac has been delivered to you.

You can customize the settings to make your computer work better and make it your own. Below are some cool ways to do so.

 Change Icons

The Mac’s standard icons are pretty generic. You can download some great icons and then in finder, highlight the icon you wish to use and press the Command + I to get the information, then click on the small version of the icon on the top left corner and copy it. Now go to the file or folder you wish to use the new icon in and press Command + I. Then again highlight the icon in the top left corner of this window and hit Command + V to paste the image and set the new icon. A custom icon will appear in the Finder. For best results, it is recommended that you use PNG file.

Add Lock Screen Wallpaper

Lock screen image in your Apple computer by default is a blurred version of your desktop wallpaper, but you can change it to personalize your device.  To add wallpaper top the lock screen, you first need to check the resolution of the image to match Mac’s display.

For this, click on the Apple button in the top-left corner and choose About This Mac. Here in the Display tab, you will get all the information needed for resolution. Then search and download the image you wish to use and convert it into a PNG file format. To do so, you need to open Preview and go to File>Save As. Then choose PNG format and give the file a name e.g. com.apple.desktop.admin. The resulting name should appear as com.apple.desktop.admin.png.

Once the file is ready, open Finder and then choose Go>Go to Folder, then in the pop-up window add Library/Caches and click Go. Here you will find a file with the above name for your lock screen wallpaper, you just need to drag your new image here and click Replace and voila you have changed the image. However, if you change your desktop wallpaper, your device will replace the custom lock screen image with the standard blurred version. So every time you change the desktop wallpaper do change the lock screen wallpaper as well.

When it comes to customization of your Mac, there are endless options to choose from and make your Mac to best fit the suitability.
