How to Fix a Stuck Pixel on your Screen Swiftly

Does a little permanent black or colored spot on your LCD, OLED, or TFT screen annoy you? If yes, then before calling a repair guy or ordering a new screen, wait for a second and try to understand the stuck pixel concept.

Once you get the hang of pixels, you can save your warranty for rainy days and can fix stuck or dead pixels on your own.

What’s Stuck or Dead Pixels

Your computer or TV screen is a collection of millions of tiny lights called pixels, which help create the screen’s image. The pixels further have sub-pixels that emit RGB (red, green, and blue) lights. When RGB colors are lit together, it creates white light, while other colors are formed when three color beams meet at different angles.

Here the stuck pixel is a situation when one of RGB gets stuck at one color that could be red, green, or blue. This, in return, appears as a bright spot of color on your screen. However, these spots disappear automatically after some time. But unfortunately, some won’t, and you have to fix them.

Reason Behind Stuck Pixels

This stuck problem has emerged with LCD (liquid crystal displays) screens. Usually, malfunctioned hardware or transistors cause pixels to be stuck on your screen.

If manufacturers haven’t correctly designed pixel parts of substrate glass isn’t working properly, the pixels will get stuck. However, if a pixel is stuck, it doesn’t mean the whole pixel is damaged. Instead, the problem might be in one or two sub-pixels that you can easily fix at your home.

Stuck Pixel vs. Dead Pixel

Before we show you how to fix a stuck pixel on your screen, it’s important to know the difference between a stuck and a dead pixel. Mostly, both terms are considered interchangeable, but they aren’t, as—

If your pixel shows a specific color rather than a black spot or the color changes with the background, it is a case of a stuck pixel.

Dead pixels appear in either black or white color regardless of the screen background. However, white pixels are called Hot pixels, but both are practically identical with the same dead pixel fix.

Whereas you can fix stuck pixels at your home, but dead pixel fix isn’t in your hands. You have to either contact the manufacturer or replace the screen. Here if your screen is still under warranty, that will be very helpful for you.

3 Definite Ways to Fix a Stuck Pixel

Turn off your screen for at least 24 hours

If the pixels have recently stuck on your screen, you can shut off the monitor for a whole day to fix the problem. This isn’t a sure-shot fix. However, this stuck problem is often induced due to screen overuse. So, if you give a rest to your screen, it might fix a stuck pixel problem for you.

Use third-party tools

When a simple switching off screen method doesn’t work for you, start looking for stuck pixel fixer tools. There are plenty of different third-party tools available to fix stuck and dead pixels, such as—

  • JScreenFix: It is a website that can help to fix stuck pixels on your screen. Just open the JScreenFix website, and a black browser window will load with a square of flashing pixels. Now, you have to drag the flashing square to where the pixel is stuck on your screen and leave it for 10 minutes, and your pixel will be fixed.

Pressure or heat fix

Foremost, we don’t recommend this stuck or dead pixel fix. But if no tool or turn-off method works for you and on top of it, your screen’s warranty period has already expired, on the last resort, you can use this method. To implement the pressure fix method, follow these steps—

  • Switch off your screen.
  • Get a damp cloth so you won’t scratch the screen.
  • Using a pencil or any other sharp object, apply pressure to the area where a stuck or dead pixel annoys you. Be cautious while applying pressure, and don’t apply pressure anywhere else, as this might create more dead pixels on the screen.
  • Turn on your screen while under pressure to produce heat.
  • Now, gently remove the pressure.

If you are lucky, the stuck or dead pixel will be gone by now. The theory behind this method is that the liquid in one or more sub-pixels will get equally distributed. When you apply pressure, you force the liquid out, and when you remove the pressure, liquid might get backflushed in, spreading around equally.

So, it is a bit tricky method, and only try if you are fully sure or have no other option left than replacing your screen.
